Volunteer for the 2026 Point in Time (PIT) Count!

The PIT Count is a nationwide census of people experiencing homelessness on a single night, usually in January, mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to understand the scope of homelessness, track trends, and allocate resources. It involves local groups counting both sheltered (in shelters, transitional housing) and unsheltered (streets, cars) individuals, collecting demographic data, and informing efforts to combat homelessness.

This year's PIT Count will take place on the evening of Wednesday, January 28 and the morning of Thursday, January 29.
If you have suggestions for locations to survey people who are unsheltered to make sure they are included in the PIT Count, please contact Shayla Washington at shayla@blueridgehomeless.org.
